GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

The BSA/AML Analyst is responsible for performing a variety of fraud detection-related activities in support of Customer Identification Program (CIP), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations designed to prevent financial-related crimes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB :

  1. Maintains current knowledge of the BSA and all related anti-money laundering and Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC) regulations, along with the Bank’s current policies and procedures.
  2. Conduct analysis on transaction data to make determinations of irregular activity through understanding of industry “norms,” historical customer activity and regulatory definitions of suspicious activity.
  3. Conduct investigation by utilizing the Bank’s resources (i.e. system software, reports, databases and system applications), to determine if suspect account activity meets the established criteria for investigation of suspicious activity, as described in BSA and AML procedures.
  4. Assists in the monitoring of account activity for suspicious activity investigations, high-risk customer/account reviews and recommends when to file Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs). May assist in the filing of the SARs when necessary.
  5. Performs quality control procedures on the Bank’s CIP program.
  6. Assists in the compliance with 314(a) and 314(b) (Patriot Act) responsibilities.
  7. Upon request, provide assistance to the BSA/AML Officer with the coordination of all internal and external examination of department activity, including independent testing and external examinations.

REQUIRED SKILLS :

  1. Must be knowledgeable in the use of office equipment, (i.e. computers, copiers, scanners, multi-line phones, etc.); regular use of desktop computer and related banking software.
  2. Exceptional communication skills via remote communication, the ITM or telephone.
  3. Mental awareness, alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines.
  4. Must be proficient in MS Office, (i.e. Excel and WORD), 10-key, accounting, alpha-numeric data entry, spreadsheets
  5. Must possess excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  6. Must pay attention to detail and possess excellent problem-solving skills.
  7. Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  8. Communication Skills: Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, notes, letters and memos; ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the company.
  9. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform such mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  10. Critical Thinking Skills: Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.
  11. Decision-Making: Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance, and which would not only affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved but would also affect the work operations of other employees and/or clientele to a slight degree.
  12. Public Contact: Regular contact with patrons, either within the office or in the field. May involve occasional self-initiated contacts to patrons. Lack of tact and judgment may result in a limited type of problem for the organization.
  13. Mental Demand: Moderate mental demand. Operations requiring almost continuous attention, but work is sufficiently repetitive that a habit cycle is formed; operations requiring intermittent directed thinking to determine or select materials, equipment or operations where variable sequences may be selected by the employee.

  15. Decision-Making: Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance, and which would not only affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved but would also affect the work operations of other employees and/or clientele to a slight degree.
  16. Communication Skills: Ability to write reports, business correspondence and policy & procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  17. Accuracy: Probably errors of internal and external scope would have a moderate effect on the operational efficiency of the organizational component concerned. Errors might possibly go undetected for a considerable period of time, thereby creating an inaccurate picture of an existing situation; could cause further errors, losses or embarrassment to the company. The possibility for error is always present due to requirements of the job.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the BSA Analyst is continuously required to sit, stand, talk or hear; they regularly sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel and frequently are required to reach with their hands and arms and occasionally stand, walk, climb or balance. They may occasionally lift, move, push or pull up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This is an indoor position and the noise level in the work area is usually moderate. There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma or GED equivalent; emphasis on office skills, plus 2 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

This position reports directly to the BSA Officer. The BSA Officer reports to the CFO, who reports directly to the President/CEO of American National Bank & Trust.
